Meerufenfushi, Maldives

Once we realized that the Maldives was only a 6 hour flight from Hong Kong we knew that it would be on our short list of places to visit.  When we saw a airfare special that was heading that way during an upcoming Holiday weekend we took advantage of the opportunity to hop on Wednesday evening flight that will land us in the Maldives around 9 PM local time.  Other than the main island of Male, the Maldives is a series of much smaller islands that pretty much only have a single resort of the island.  In most cases you have to take a sea plane another 45 – 90 minutes to get to your resort.  Given our shortened weekend and flight times we wanted to make sure we picked an island/resort that was only a boat ride away.  After arriving in Male we took a 50 minute boat to the island of Meerufenfushi in the North Male’ Atoll to Meeru Island Resort & Spa.  From our perspective, this resort had everything we would want in a vacation, an all-inclusive resort where we were able to stay in an over-water bungalow in the Indian Ocean, that had a Jacuzzi on the deck, an infinity pool without kids and plenty of other sports and activities to do during the day.  In addition to a workout room, the island had ping pong, a golf driving range, basketball courts, badminton courts, a chip and putt golf course and even a full size soccer field (one of Scot’s favorite aspects).

Day 1 – After checking in and heading to bed we woke up the next morning, headed to gym, played a little bit on the soccer field and then headed to breakfast.  After exploring the island a bit we headed to the pool to relax and soak up some rays until we decided it was time to grab lunch, head back to the pool and then make the tougher decisions of the day like which cocktail we wanted.  Almost everyday we followed this up watching the sunset and playing cards followed by a dip in the deck jacuzzi then dinner and a few night caps before bed.

Day 2 – Repeat
Day 3 – Repeat, and also a fantastic massage in an over-water bungalow watching the fish below.
Day 4 – Repeat until we headed back to the airport around 6 PM for our red eye flight back to Hong Kong.

All in all, a great few days and fantastic bucket list place for us to check out, we would love to have spent more time and possibly check out another resort and island if we had more vacation days to spend there!
